Is it possible to change a visitor visa to student visa or work permit from within Canada?

Posted May 18th, 2012 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

My friend intends to travel to Canada on a visit visa and stay with his relatives (Permanent Residents). He wants to change his visitor visa to student visa or work permit from within Canada itself, basically settle down there and become permanent resident. What needs to be done and how. If you have similar experience in this regard or have heard of it, please reply.

College student planning to emigrate to Canada for graduate school?

Posted April 21st, 2012 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

I’m in my early 20’s and live in the US but would eventually like to attend graduate school for speech pathology in Canada and become a permanent resident. I have about a year and a half left to finish my BA degree but do you think attending graduate school will increase my chances for gaining permanent resident status? Also, when I was 16, I was arrested but not convicted of a misdemeanor (petit larceny) and my charges were dropped. The record is now sealed, but how much of a barrier do you think this may pose in the immigration process? Thanks!

Posted March 21st, 2012 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

Hi!

I’m from France and I’m 17 (18 in 3 weeks) I live in Manchester, England where I work and study.
My parents are living in France and I’m staying with a family friend in the UK.
My best friend is from Canada (Nova Scotia) and after spending a month there I really enjoy it.
Anyway, I really would like to study and work in Canada, I’m not an high school graduate in France, however I have been accepted to College in the UK.
Do you think it will be possible to move to Canada, finish High School there and get a work permit?

Thanks : )

International student eligible to apply for Canadian Permanent Citizenship after 2 years of full-time study?

Posted June 30th, 2011 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

Under Canadian Immigration Law (according to its website); Immigration to Canada is made possible through three possible ways: Business Class. Skilled Worker Class or Family Class.

I heard from a very trustworthy friend of mine that 2 years of full-time study would enable International Student to apply for Canadian permanent resident? Is this true?

American College student, thinking about future living in the UK, opinions?

Posted May 5th, 2011 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

I’m am an electrical engineering student attending TN Tech University. Like anyone else I am thinking about my future after college and one thing I considered was possibly moving to the UK. A couple things made me consider this. I went to England last year my senior year of high school for choir and I absolutely, loved it, I had my 18th birthday there too. I’m also planning to study abroad for a semester next year in Scotland or England which will give me another idea about how I might like living there. Also, my main herritage is British. My Grandma is from Canada, and her mother immigrated from Britain years ago. I absolutely love the culture, and have been reading up on it a lot. Just a lot of stuff makes more sense, not that I don’t love the US either but.

Anyways, I guess what I’m really asking for is some opinions from maybe American’s who have moved there or from UK citizens. I know I’m only 19, but it’s never to early to think about your future.

International student holding F-1 visa in the US visiting Canada?

Posted April 29th, 2011 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

I’m a Romanian citizen currently holding F-1 status in the US and planning to visit my cousins in Canada (Canadian residents) for Christmas. I attend school in Hawaii and there is no Canadian consulate here. From what I understand, the closest embassy/consulate of Canada is about 2500 miles away in California. What are the options of obtaining a tourist visa without having to travel to California in order to get my visa. Is there a required interview?

The american library association has masters degree programs in Library Sciences in Canada. I want to go because I want to eventually emigrate to Canada from the U.S. but I would need student loans to do it. Would I be able to receive those?
