Apply for Canada PR with Asylee Status in US?

Posted September 21st, 2011 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

Hi everyone,

Currently, I work and live in US. My current status is an asylee in US. My case is still in process and pending at BIA (Board of Immigration Appeals).
No decision yet.

My question is: can I apply for Canada PR?

The reason I’m asking is because I look at on the Canada PR Application checklist, Appendix A point 4: Travel Docs and Passports, it says:

“If you live in a country different from your nationality include a photocopy of your visa for the country where you currently live. Note that all prospective immigrants must hold a valid regular passport; diplomatic, official, service or public affairs passports are not valid for immigration to Canada .”

The fact is, while I can live and work legally in US, I don’t have a visa.

Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks.

As a Canadian seeking US citizenship, will the US make me renounce my Canadian status?

Posted May 4th, 2010 by immigratecanada and filed in Uncategorized

I am Canadian, married to a US citizen and live in the US as a permanent resident.
I am able to apply for my US citizenship. I don’t want to give up my Canadian citizenship. If I get US citizenship I understand the US recognizes only one citizenship but Canada will recognize dual. Will the US make me renounce my Canadian status? I want to be able to move back to Canada in the future, but hold dual citizenship in case I need to move back to the US. Can I hold dual citizenship without comprimising my Canadian status?

My annulment is pending, so how do I answer the marital status portion in my Canada immigration application?

Posted March 28th, 2010 by immigratecanada and filed in Uncategorized

My brother and sister are Canadian citizens and have lived in Canada for over 20 years now. I and my 20-year old daughter wish to reunite with them by migrating to Canada. The application form only has “married”, “legally separated” or “annulled marriage”. I am hoping to get my annulment finalized by next year. What do I put in the application form? Are there documents needed to show my pending annulment? Please help me. Many thanks!
