I’m a gay American citizen looking to get out. Where should I emigrate to and how?

Posted March 28th, 2012 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

I’m a 20-year-old American with a brain, ambition and a bachelor’s degree in Geography, Arabic and E. European Studies.

I’ve also been thinking about and researching emigration on a near daily basis for at least three years. I am not comfortable in this country – I’m gay, Palestinian, a secular Muslim, very liberal and am quite affected by my inability to marry a foreigner.

I’ve been thinking of emigrating to Canada (which would be easy), but I’d like to somehow get into the E.U.

I’d prefer a country that allows gay marriage, has good health care and isn’t rife with problems. I’ve been investigating Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands and the U.K. I don’t care about high taxes or languages. I /would/ like to maintain my American citizenship so that I can take care of family in the future, etc. without problem. (I hear that some officially do not allow dual citizenship, but don’t really enforce it.)

What do you suggest? How do I do this without being a highly skilled professional?

UPDATE: I know which countries allow for gay marriage/benefits.

I just want to know which E.U. country is easiest to emigrate to and how to go about doing it.

The gay marriage/benefits thing is just ONE factor in influencing why I’m leaving and where I’ll go – that is, I’d prefer Sweden and Holland to Poland or Malta, which, despite being EU, are not at all gay-friendly. I’ve been in love with someone before that didn’t have the right passport and it’s kept us apart – not a fun experience. If I was a Swede, Canadian, etc. it wouldn’t be a problem. Make sense?

Immigrating to Canada? How much money should I save?

Posted January 3rd, 2012 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

I’m going to be immigrating to Canada if all goes according to plan in about 1 1/2 years. I have dual citizenship with the US and Canada, and would like to return to Canada to start a life there. My question is: How much money should I save between now and then to ensure that I can settle comfortably? I intend to have a job lined up , but essentially show up with the clothes on my back, a few boxes, my cat, and my car. Since I have no canadian credit history how much of a deposit will I be required to make on an apartment? Any links, resources, or personal experience would be greatly appreciated

Did you see any reason why this illegal should not be deported Mexican teen could be deported Saturday?

Posted October 17th, 2011 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

An 18-year-old Mexican refugee claimant who contends he faces death in his homeland will be deported Saturday if the government does not grant him temporary residency.

On Friday, a Federal Court judge in Toronto dismissed Daniel Garcia’s application for a temporary stay of his deportation order. Outside of the Federal Court of Appeal, the teen’s supporters held a rally that called on the Citizenship and Immigration Department to keep Mr. Garcia in Canada.

“The application today was just denied. There is an application for a temporary residence permit to (Immigration Minister) Jason Kenney’s office, but we haven’t heard anything back from him,” said Mohan Mishra, an immigration caseworker with No One Is Illegal in Toronto.

“Despite community support from his friends, classmates, teachers, school trustees and church communities, we still see that Minister Kenney is burying his head in the sand,” Mr. Mishra said.

A flight has been scheduled for Mr. Garcia, although the time has not been released.

The Grade 11 student arrived in Canada as a minor in 2007 under the guardianship of his elder sister Brenda. The two had applied for refugee status, arguing that they faced persecution and possibly death in Mexico because Brenda is gay. They said they had already experienced discrimination and homophobic violence there.
Her application was denied and she was deported last Monday.

The younger Garcia has stayed in a Canada Border Services detention centre since Dec. 23.

According to the court decision, Mr. Garcia failed to report a change of his address when he moved in October 2010, and he failed to appear at an immigration hearing in November, which lead to a warrant for his arrest.

“The applicant’s behaviour shows complete disregard for Canada’s immigration laws,” the judge wrote in a court decision, noting Garcia didn’t apply “with clean hands.”

What should I anticipate in the process of visiting Canada?

Posted October 6th, 2011 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

I am a 20 yo US citizen planning to visit for 6 months. I was wondering if I would need anything else besides my passport, around 4000-5000 US dollars, staying with my girlfriend so no need for a hotel. Am I admissible? What do they generally ask? Should I buy a two way ticket? Did I miss anything?

Thanks in advance.

Should the US essentially copy the Canadian health care model and integrate it with Canada’s?

Posted September 24th, 2011 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

Think about it: If we had NAFTA, why can’t we do the same with health care?

Why can’t you travel to Canada and use your health care service in Canada just as a Canadian could do the same when traveling to the US?

Should the USA allow unlimited migration from Mexico?

Should Israel, Palestine or both be allowed to expand without limits?
How often must they attack each other, to gain, essential space?
Should Canada allow unlimited migration from USA?
Yes! We are all welcomed there, without limits.
