“In the early hours of Saturday October 17, a vessel of unknown origin sailing under the name “Ocean Lady” and carrying unknown cargo and individuals entered Canadian waters. Based on this and information received from its security partners, the RCMP took steps to intervene with close support of the Canadian Forces and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). An RCMP Emergency Response Team trained in maritime intervention boarded and took control of the vessel. A Canadian Forces navigational and safety crew is now piloting the vessel. The RCMP vessels Higgitt and Lindsay along with the Canadian Navy frigate HMCS Regina are working to safely escort the Ocean Lady into port at Ogden Point, British Columbia. Federal officials are on the scene and are authorized to examine the 76 people and associated goods entering Canada to determine their admissibility. Their goal is to ensure the security of Canada’s borders while facilitating the entry of legitimate travellers and goods. The RCMP and CBSA work closely with domestic and international partners to combat irregular migration to Canada, including smuggling and trafficking in persons. The RCMP and CBSA will continue to collaborate in the investigation within their respective mandates. I want to commend the collaboration and coordination among various government agencies as well as the men and women that were ready to move rapidly on this situation. The Government of Canada is committed to the safety and security of our

moving to canada: parent problems(from a teens point of view)?

right, well basically, we applied to move to canada well over 4 years ago, and today, my mum got an email saying that our passports and visas had arrived at the office of the company we are moving with, and that they will be sent to us tomorrow.

i was upstairs on my laptop at the time, and my mum came up and told me to guess what the email was about, and i did, but she said check your emails anyway, so i did and she hadn’t sent it, so i went onto hers and there it was, clear as crystal. i just read it and thought to myself, ‘ oh damn, we are really going, aren’t we’.
i don’t think my mum was very happy with my reaction, because i just kind of sat there and was like, yer, so what? so she asked me if i had read it and i said yer and she said ‘well what do you think’ and so i said ‘yer, great’.
anyway, later on at dinner, i asked her if that meant we were going to canada again for a fact finding trip, and my older brother turned round and said, ‘why would we be going?’. my mum hadn’t told him, and still hasn’t!! i was furious, so i went upstairs and was literally on the verge of telling him, because he has a right to know.

i was actually looking forward to it, but if this is what family life is going to be like, then i dont think i want to.

i think my mum has got it into her head that because she wants to go, then everyone else in the family surely must want to go, but i dont, and neither does my dad. another thing, my parents obviously havent realised that uprooting me from the middle of year 11, and GCSEs isnt such a good idea.

anyway, my problem is:

1. do you think someone should tell my brother that our visas are coming tomorrow? (the only reason my mum doesnt want him knowing is because she thinks he will go and leave the rest of us here)
2. should i wait until after my GCSEs before going, or go before, because they dont mean anything in canada?
3. how can i get it into my parents heads that i really DONT want to go? i have tried telling them and telling them that i am happy here, and dont want to go, as i have plans of what i am doing in this country.

any ideas?

i can remember the last thing someone said to me at an emigration seminar was: ‘the whole family should sit down and talk about it together. if not, its not going to work’. he got that SO right…
