One Canadian and one American have a child. Can one parent leave with child to Canada?
Can I leave for Canada (I am a Canadian citizen) with my child, without the father’s consent? The child is a U.S. born citizen. Does Canada and U.S. have foreign policies regarding child abduction? Or will Canada not become involved in custody disputes?
moving to canada: parent problems(from a teens point of view)?
right, well basically, we applied to move to canada well over 4 years ago, and today, my mum got an email saying that our passports and visas had arrived at the office of the company we are moving with, and that they will be sent to us tomorrow.
i was upstairs on my laptop at the time, and my mum came up and told me to guess what the email was about, and i did, but she said check your emails anyway, so i did and she hadn’t sent it, so i went onto hers and there it was, clear as crystal. i just read it and thought to myself, ‘ oh damn, we are really going, aren’t we’.
i don’t think my mum was very happy with my reaction, because i just kind of sat there and was like, yer, so what? so she asked me if i had read it and i said yer and she said ‘well what do you think’ and so i said ‘yer, great’.
anyway, later on at dinner, i asked her if that meant we were going to canada again for a fact finding trip, and my older brother turned round and said, ‘why would we be going?’. my mum hadn’t told him, and still hasn’t!! i was furious, so i went upstairs and was literally on the verge of telling him, because he has a right to know.
i was actually looking forward to it, but if this is what family life is going to be like, then i dont think i want to.
i think my mum has got it into her head that because she wants to go, then everyone else in the family surely must want to go, but i dont, and neither does my dad. another thing, my parents obviously havent realised that uprooting me from the middle of year 11, and GCSEs isnt such a good idea.
anyway, my problem is:
1. do you think someone should tell my brother that our visas are coming tomorrow? (the only reason my mum doesnt want him knowing is because she thinks he will go and leave the rest of us here)
2. should i wait until after my GCSEs before going, or go before, because they dont mean anything in canada?
3. how can i get it into my parents heads that i really DONT want to go? i have tried telling them and telling them that i am happy here, and dont want to go, as i have plans of what i am doing in this country.
any ideas?
i can remember the last thing someone said to me at an emigration seminar was: ‘the whole family should sit down and talk about it together. if not, its not going to work’. he got that SO right…
If I have a parent that was born in Canada, can I easily get dual citizenship between Canada and the USA?
My fiance and I have a parent who was born in Canada and we were wondering if that would make it easier for us to get dual citizenship between there and here (the U.S.) Thanks guys!
Am I automatically a Canadian citizen if I was born outside of Canada to a Canadian parent?
I know that Canada introduced a new law in April 2009 regarding citizenship.
I was wondering if I am a Canadian citizen or still have the rights to apply for citizenship if not. Cause I was born in 1993 in Australia and my parents have still yet to notify the Canadian consulate of my birth or apply for a Canadian Citizen Certificate on my behalf.
If this helps, my father was nationalized as a Canadian citizen before my birth, and my mother only has Australian citizenship.
