Jamaican National Symbols

Posted September 4th, 2011 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

This is my first atempt at animation. The subject matter is essentially my perspective on national symbols that I have seen in my Caribbean environment since I was young that have taken on tremendous importance upon my migration to Canada. I employed traditional folk music of mento which is a forgotten form of Jamaican music. The symbols are not seen as stiff statutes and emblems but representative of the actual unique realities on the island. Additionally, this was inspired by MIA’s video “Galang” esp the bird flying to create the colours. Check out my other video that explores briefly Jamaica’s rich musical culture ca.youtube.com Also, check out another video dealing with issues of immigration/migration ca.youtube.com

US and Canadian National Anthems (Ducks vs. Canucks on March 6, 2011) – Giana Nguyen

On Sunday, March 6, 2011, I had the tremendous honor of singing the US and Canadian national anthems at the Ducks vs. Canucks game at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. And better yet, the event was in support of a charity close to my heart, CHOC Children’s Hospital. An opportunity like that doesn’t come along very often and I feel very, very lucky to have had that experience. With love, Giana giananguyen.com www.facebook.com/giananguyen

If you have dual citizenship in the US and Canada, are you entitled to Canada’s free national health care?

From what I’ve heard, Canada has free national health care. I want this too, but it looks like the US isn’t going to get it for a while yet. I’m a US citizen who’s thinking of applying for dual citizenship with Canada. This would be only one of the reasons, but it is certainly the most appealing. I just want to know if I am entitled to it if I apply for dual citizenship.

St. Petersburg, Florida (CNN) — Eight Republican presidential hopefuls sparred during their debate in St. Petersburg, Florida, on Wednesday, November 28. Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul responds to a question about talk of a North American Union. – Seekster (Youtuber from Arlington, TX): Now, I’ve met a lot of your supporters online, but I’ve noticed that a good number of them seem to buy into this conspiracy theory regarding the Council of Foreign Relations and some plan to make the North American Union by merging the United States with Canada and Mexico. These supporters of yours seem to think that you also believe in this theory, so my question to you is, do you really believe in all of this, or people are just putting words in your mouth? – Ron Paul responds: Well, it all depends on what you mean by “all of this”, the CFR exists, the Trilateral Commission exists, and it’s a [quote] “conspiracy of ideas”, this is an ideological battle, some people believe in Globalism, others of us believe in National Sovereignty. And there is a move on toward a North American Union, just like early on there was a move on for a European Union and eventually ended up. So we have NAFTA, and ‘moving forward a NAFTA highway, these are real things, it’s not somebody made this up, it’s not a conspiracy. They don’t talk about it and they might not admit about it, but there’s been money spent on it, there was legislation passed in the Texas Legislature unanimously to put a hold on
