Immigration lawyers, what do they do?

My family and I (all 4 of us are US citizens) are trying to apply for Canadian PR and my dad is considering getting an immigration lawyer. But he also said they cost a lot. How much will they cost to help us through one PR application and how much do they really help? I am just curious. Thanks.

(No offense to any immigration lawyers that surf this site. It would be great if you answered as well, I am just curious, not meaning to offend you.)
Yeah we don’t have a criminal background and I still live in Canada on a study permit and my family used to live here until about 5 months ago but now they went to the States again. We lived here for 7 years as a family so I think our case is routine, or hopefully, better than routine. It’s just a lot of work for my dad because he is busy with his work and this application is apparently quite time-consuming. 🙁

Are Immigration Lawyers worth the money ?

Are Immigration Lawyers worth the money for family class visa’s ?

I am marrying in January and the Canadian Immigration Website has a pretty well defined process on their website, making me believe paying $3k for someone to process paperwork is a bit excessive and unnecessary.
Forgot to mention, I am a Canadian… 🙂

My mother’s father who is a U.S citizen will soon be filing for my mother and us (her kids). My question is I would like an estimate to how much would an immigration attorney charge for assitance with this type of service? Also if anyone can provide me with contacts with immirgation lawyers in Canada, Toronto to be exact who specialize in family based petitions that would be great thanks!

Question about Immigration Lawyers?

Let’s say I live in the US but I want to move to Canada. I wanted to use an immigration lawyer to help me with the process. Should I contact an immigration in Canada? Or an immigration lawyer in the US?

Also, if I have to contact a Canadian immigration lawyer, does the lawyer need to be located in the city where I want to move? Let’s say I want to move to Vancouver BC but my immigration lawyer operates in Toronto?
