“Margie” The Hot Five Jazzmakers & Guest

This cut comes from a Saturday jazz club matinee at “C’est what?” at 67 Front St East, Toronto on May 5th 2001. Trumpet player Andrej Saradin had only recently joined the band, after emigrating to Canada from Slovakia. Another interesting aspect to the session was our guest, Larry Okmin on clarinet. Larry is the leader of the High Society Jazz Band of San Diego and I believe he was in Toronto for a conference – Larry is a qualified orthodontist. Here he fits in with us very nicely. The rhythmn section is laying down a really solid and swinging beat, just the way I like it, thanks to Reide Kaiser- pno; Colin Bray -bass; Gary Scriven -drums and Roberto Rosenman -acoustic guitar. Roberto played with the Hot Five quite regularly for several months around 2000 to 2001. Now he has his own Saturday matinee show, so we do not see him often anymore. Janet Shaw can be seen on alto sax, taking a back seat for once! Another clip is to follow soon, where she performs a hot duet with Larry on “Running Wild” The 7th member of the Hot Five Jazzmakers is leader Brian Towers on trombone.
