Jamaican National Symbols
This is my first atempt at animation.The subject matter is essentially my perspective on national symbols that I have seen in my Caribbean environment since I was young that have taken on tremendous importance upon my migration to Canada. I employed traditional folk music of mento which is a forgotten form of Jamaican music. The symbols are not seen as stiff statutes and emblems but representative of the actual unique realities on the island. Additionally, this was inspired by MIA’s video “Galang” esp the bird flying to create the colours.
