Geography: Immigration Interview Assignment
Roena Shams immigrated to Canada from Afghanistan in March 2003. The push factors that made her and her family want to leave her country, were education, freedom of speech, job opportunities and health care. Back in Afghanistan, there was lack of educational opportunities, especially for girls. Women had no right to vote and were not allowed to work in their professions during the war periods. Additionally, the health care system was poor. The pull factors that Canada offered this immigrant were education, jobs, freedom of speech, health care and less crime.
This woman felt very happy leaving her home country in order for her children to have a better future, but also sad. Afghanistan was her home land where she grew up with her family, married and created many happy memories. The only part missing in her life was her children’s safety and future. She left everything behind and moved on to a remarkable nation. The most difficult part leaving behind was her memories with parents and her career. In her home country, Roena was a teacher in an elementary school who taught young children partly English and Dari. With this migration, this very woman accepted the fact of leaving everything for only one cause, safety.
Roena had applied as a refugee when arriving in Canada. Her life and her children’s life were in danger in her own country. The war had put this woman’s life in threat and needed to immigrate to another country as soon as possible. The war had affected every member of her family seeing that her children were having dreadful nightmares about the war.

I’m immigrating to the US. I’ve been here since my marriage. (May ’09). Recieved letter for my interview and they are requesting 2004-2009 tax returns, from my wife and I. Does that mean I must find a way to track down my last 4 yrs worth of tax returns from canada??

U.S. Immigration Interview?

Posted February 2nd, 2011 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

If you have been thru the Immigration interview from Canada to the U.S. can you tell me anything about it?.. I am married to an American and now have my Interview on Thursday.. I feel very nervous about it.. can anyone share there experience!
We have a lawyer looking after all the paperwork for us so I am not so worried about having proper documents.. Our marriage is Legit and we havea son together.. my biggest problem or worry is the fact that I stayed in the US much longer than allowed because I was pregnant with my son.. and then he came 2 months early and was in terrible health.. I couldn’t leave with him still in the hospital..so I waited until he was in good health and then we came back to Canada of our of free will to get my papers done properly… I am most worried that they will “ban” me and we will have to put a petition in… if that is the case.. I will have another 6 months to a year here…I have already been away from my husband for a year and a half.. I can’t take it anymore!! I know I did wrong..I just hope they will have some compassion with where I was coming from with my son.. we also have the Arizona Senator telling them he wants us home.. how much difference do you think that would make???

telephone interview instead of personal interview is possible for canada immigration application?

Posted December 1st, 2010 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

I got a telephone call from the embassy and to my surprise i wasnt able to give an assertive answers. There was no telephone interview in the website nor to any of the correspondence of the embassy sent to me. Is telephone interview can alter a personal interview to determine approval rate of my application for immigration in Canada?

Cohabitation was the issue which the person from the other line was discussing. Cohabitation means “living together” for at least 1 year. Which unfortunately me and my common law partner didnt meet their definition of cohabitation bec according to the person from the other line that my partner was just visiting me 2 times a year despite that our relationship was already 6 years. (My partner is a U.S. Immigrant, willing to surrender everything inluding his stable job as registered nurse just to be reunited with me for good) My partner has been the bread and butter of our family. Just like other families, one needs to be away temporarily to sustain a decent life for his family.

I emailed them that I shall be interviewed and bring along evidences that our relationship is like husband and wife. I can prove joint credit card, joint purchase of a property, our families, employers, friends, peers regarded us a couple. That in 2009, he opt to have his gallbladder removal in our country instead in the U.S since I am his partner & I coud not go to the U.S simply because I dont have a visa. That we both join responsibilities in our liabilities like house rental, electricity, water, telephone. That we travelled in 2007 together with my children. And a lot more proof that we can present.

Above avidences were sadly not mentioned during the telephone interview. Im afraid that the embassy might end up in decision which is bitter to accept. Please help us though no letter of decision we received yet, your enlightenment will be appreciated. Godspeed.
