Canadian Immigration Law?
Good Afternoon,
I would like to consult with the following information please:
I have a friend overseas and is an Interpreter for the Canadians & Americans in Afghanistan.
He is 23 years of age and has a high school diploma along with all the necessary certifications that are required to work as an Interpreter.
He has been working at this position for the past 4 years and has excellent recommendations.
Currently, I would like to assist him to come to Canada.
I am currently seperated not divorced and was wondering if there is any possibility to sponsor someone who is not related or married?
Also, he is considering to apply for asylum here in Canada, with supporting documentation; since his life is at threat there( the Taliban know who he is working for).
If he does arrive here on a 3 month tourist(visitor) visa, can he still submit a claim as a refugee; or does he have to apply as a refugee status prior to arriving to Canada?
If he declares that he is a refugee at the airport; is there a possibility that customs Canada will not let him in on a tourist visa?
If they do, how long is the approximate wait at the airport before officials release him?
Will they still ask a refugee for proof of financial means while here ? For ex. will they actually look at his bank account at the airport should he carry cash with him? What is the minimum amount that he should declare?
Also if he goes to an immigration office while here on a tourist visa, lets say a few weeks upon arrival; can they give him a court date right away or will he most likely miss his departure date (return ticket) of 3 months?
Also if he chooses to apply for a student visa; is it possible for one to apply after arriving in Canada with a visitors visa?
Is there any possibility that he can apply for a work visa , for ex. from the Canadian government, as an Interpreter? I understand that Canadian Citizens can apply but perhaps they may also have some options for refugees to work?
Can one change visitor visa status to work permit status while here as a visitor if suitable work is found?
If I write a recommendation letter, stating also that he will stay with me and that I can support him financially, will this be of help for the process? I am a Candian citizen since 1983 and also hold certification within IRB Canada as a court interpreter.
I really appreciate your kind assistance as we are hoping that he can safely arrive to Canada soon as every minute is very critical to his well being.
I look forward to hearing from you.
