How did early immigrants to Canada buy land?

The early immigrants during the Great Migration from Europe/United States to Canada…. how did they buy land? Was it pre-purchased before they arrived, or did they buy it upon arrival. Who did they buy it from? Did they receive a certificate of some sort that claims their ownership of the land?

Reasons why Canada should change work and education standards for IMMIGRANTS?

Posted May 30th, 2010 by immigratecanada and filed in Uncategorized

A doctor comes to Canada hoping for a better life and ends up working a job no one else wanted, something more degrading than minimum wage jobs.

When we are in need of educated and qualified people why do we stick them in cheap uniforms giving them jobs teenagers are doing?

So far i only have one reason why this needs to change , because we are in need of qualified people, as stated above.

Can you think of anymore? I need this in order to start a presentation

Thanks alot. (ill even mention your name if you want)

Where can I find the film the Canadian Embassy used in 1970 to attract immigrants to Canada?

My family emigrated from England to Canada in 1972. This emigration was, in part, inspired by a film we were shown (along with other prospective emigrants) at the Canadian Embassy in London, England in 1970. The film, probably made in the 1960s, showed how wonderful life was in Canada. One scene in particular I remember was a blissfully happy family driving in their station wagon back home after grocery shopping. They entered their beautiful house and then put away the groceries — I remember the big, red steaks being stored in the freezer in the basement….
I would love to get a copy of this film, if anyone can help me locate it!

My friend told me this still practised by immigration services, is this true?

For example, would the name “Miguel” be changed into “Michael”? Or would the immigrant be allowed to keep their original name?
