I am a born American and have lived here all my life. My boyfriend is Canadian. I am looking to move to Vancouver (where he lives) on either a work or study visa. Marriage certainly a possibility, although not right away of course since we have only been dating ten months.

But if I was to marry him, would I gain dual citizenship in both the US and Canada? Or will I lose my US citizenship? Is there any way that I could gain citizenship to Canada without losing my US citizenship?

without losing the right to live back in England?
we thought it would make us more “flexible” with living in UK or Canada also we can sponsor direct family in to Canada if we become Canadian citizens

my question is, do we have to give up our Brit citizenship or can we have both citizenships

My boyfriend (a Canadian) and I (American) want to eventually get married and both get dual citizenship, what?

Posted May 16th, 2011 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

My boyfriend is from Montreal and I am from Virginia. We want to get married eventually and each get dual citizenship in the other country (Canada for me and the US for him). All the information I’ve read online is so overwhelming — travel visas, student visas, work visas, fiancee visas, green cards, permanent residency, naturalization, citizenship tests, Immigration officers, Immigration lawyers, Consulates, Canadian Embassy, US Embassy — I don’t know where to start. Can anyone familiar with the process give me a basic idea of what to do first? I know it’s all complicated and takes forever and I’m prepared for that.

Both of my Grandparents were Canadian born. They both became US citizens in their 20’s. My Parents are both US citizens. Is there anyway to obtain dual citizenship? I am 30 years old and I live in California.

Also, can I obtain dual citizenship without having to live in Canada?
