If I apply for a work permit or emigration to Australia or Canada, does my past employment need verification?

Posted November 4th, 2010 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

From what I understand, past employment is a major factor in determining how many “points” you accumulate, which decides whether you will be approved for a visa or not.

Well, I’m an American citizen, but I’ve spent most of the last two years in Asia teaching English after I graduated from college. Does this employment need to be verified somehow in order for me to get the immigration points? If so, how?

I think the private schools I worked for shut down after I left, so I doubt I’d be able to track down my previous employers. Even if I could, their English skills are pretty poor, so it would be difficult to get anything accomplished anyway.

So, do I have to somehow prove my past employment in order to get the immigration points, or do I just write down where I worked and that’s all there is to it?

Thanks very much!
ibu guru: Thanks for answering! Yes, “fly-by-night” might be a fitting description for my ex-employers.

When you say that I’ll need “verification of employment and references from past employers”… are those two separate things?

Is the verification more than just the reference? …and does it require telephone conversations, letters of reference, or what exactly?

How do me and my family go about emigrating to Australia or Canada?

Posted June 1st, 2010 by immigratecanada and filed in Uncategorized

My parents are thinking about emigrating. They haven’t yet descided where to, but they know it’s between either Canada or Australia. We have looked up what needs to be done on the internet but it’s all far to confusing. It would be much appreciated if some one understand it and can explain in there own words what needs to be done, or to hear from some one who has emigrated themself. Thank you =]
