If you have dual citizenship in the US and Canada, are you entitled to Canada’s free national health care?

Posted March 17th, 2011 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

From what I’ve heard, Canada has free national health care. I want this too, but it looks like the US isn’t going to get it for a while yet. I’m a US citizen who’s thinking of applying for dual citizenship with Canada. This would be only one of the reasons, but it is certainly the most appealing. I just want to know if I am entitled to it if I apply for dual citizenship.

American Emigrating to Canada/work permit?

Posted March 17th, 2011 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

My boyfriend is American and lives in the U.S. I am a Canadian living in B.C. we have been dating online for a very very long time now and he always comes up here to visit me, so yes we have met in person plenty of times. We have come to the conclusion that we think its best he moves up here to canada to live and be with me. with that said, we arent sure how to go about it(yes we have looked at many canada immigration sites we just want more personal stories and opinions). we want him to come up here as fast, as legal, and as easiest to come up here to Canada. We also want to get married sometime soon and thought maybe he could get a temporary work permit up here and while hes on that we could get married up here and then he can permanently stay here with me and work because we are married. would that be a possible route to go and is that legal? thats just an idea, we just thought the marriage thing would help to let him permantly stay but if theres another option that doesnt require getting married thats fine too, atleast we will one day get married. whats the easiest fastest way of getting him out here and being able to permanently stay and work? and if he does have to end up coming on a temporary work status and getting a work permit how much money if required from him to have in his bank to be allowed to move up here and if he has to have a certain amount and doesnt quiet have it cant he just rely on my help too? ANY HELP WOULD BE VERY VERY APPRECIATED THANK YOU :D!!!

Should i hire a lawyer or apply for canadian permanent residency on my own?

Posted March 16th, 2011 by immigratecanada and filed in Immigration to Canada

Some tell me that an immigration lawyer isn’t necessary, since he will not be able to make the process go any faster. Others say it makes a lot of sense to use a lawyer since this is his area of expertise and i need to make sure everything is done perfectly.
