What do I do about my driver’s license when I immigrate from Canada to the US?

I currently have a G2 class license (in Ontario) and can’t get my G yet because of the strike. I am about to immigrate to the United States and I want to know the process of getting my driver’s license switched over to a Louisiana license when I already have my license? Would it be the same process from a G2 as it would a G? Should I upgrade to a G before I go or would it not make a difference?

I will be a permanent resident.
